Your Pet Evacuation Plan
EVACUATION TIPS FOR COMPANION ANIMALS COURTESY OF THE HIGH DESERT HUMANE SOCIETY:
Most “people” shelters cannot accept pets due to health and safety regulations...
Prepare now and plan ahead for the day you and your pet may have to evacuate your home.
The High Desert Humane Society WILL provide emergency housing for your companion animals in a disaster.
In addition, they will network information with other facilities for evacuation of other animals such as horses, birds, reptiles, etc.
Don't leave your pet behind!
Here's what YOU need to bring:
Medications - if your pet has any special medications, bring them.
Vaccination Records and/or Tags....This not only provides shot history but also identification.
Collar & Leash....Although the shelter has plenty, your pet will feel more comfortable with their own.
Bed or Blankets....It is comforting for your pet to have its own bed or blanket & a favorite toy if possible.
Carrying crate or cage....This allows for safer handling when pets are panicked.
Special Food....If your pet requires a special diet, bringing your own food will help maintain that.
Directions to the High Desert Humane Society Animal Facility:
From downtown Silver City.... Head South on NM90 (also called Hudson Street) Turn right onto S. Ridge Road (which is about 1.8 miles from downtown) Turn left onto Cougar Way (which is your first left) You will see the shelter on your right.
